The US has provided over 2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to PH
More than two million doses of US donated Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination arrived in the country on Monday.
The previous doses of 2,020,590 were donated via Covax and are part of the United States commitments to provide 10 million Pfizer shots to the Philippines.
A second 561.600 doses of Pfizer vaccines were delivered at 9 p.m., also from the Covax facility, bringing the total Pfizer vaccine dose to 2,582,190 today.
The distribution of US vaccines will be completed by the first week of October, according to vaccine zar Carlito Galvez, Jr.
Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, a Philippine representative of the World Health Organization, said that the donation could help the country deal with a COVID-19 surge, adding that it should be used to inoculate senior citizens, since there are still over 3,5 million elderly people who are still unvaccinated.
“Pfizer vaccinations are coming at a very good moment,” he stated at the delivery of the vaccine. It is designed to help the Philippines address the current rise and protect the largest possible lives of the Philippines.
Galvez agreed with Abeyasinghe’s remark that government officials persuade the elderly to be COVID-19 inoculated.
He stated that the vaccines are sent to locations with a COVID-19 surge, especially to the northern Luzon provinces.
Galvez also stated that the country will be receiving 22 million more doses by the end of the month or the first week of October, and that the total delivery of vaccines is anticipated to reach more than 100 million by the end of the next month.
The National Task Force Against COVID-19 stated that to date, 64,942,000 vaccination doses from different brand names had been received by the country.
“9,586,270 doses have been supplied on Sept. 13 to 19, the greatest weekly delivery since February, when vaccines were begun from different producers in the country,” the NTF said.
Of the more than nine million doses given, the government obtained 6.65 million, the private sector and local authorities purchased 909.400, and the gift from the Covax facility was 2.02 million.
“And 41,414,015 jabs were given countrywide on September 19, 18,560,409 of which were fully vaccinated persons, 24.06 percent of the target population of 77 million in the country,” the NTF said.
In the meantime, almost 22,85 million people received their first dose.
