For hardcore fans of Subway’s sandwiches, the chain’s new promotion is an opportunity of a lifetime—only it will cost them a permanent price. And some are saying that the price is too high. 

On July 27, the sandwich giant will be hosting a block party at Bad Apple Tattoo in Las Vegas, where superfans will get a chance to win free sandwiches for a month, year, or even the rest of their lives. There is, of course, a major catch: they’ll need to get a Subway logo tattooed on their bodies first.

In order to promote its new Subway Series menu, the chain is recruiting two-time Ink Master Champion DJ Tambe and his team to ink the most devoted fans with the new logo the brand created for the occasion.

The location and size of the Subway Series tattoo will determine the duration of free sandwiches the fans will receive. For example, a 2″ x 2″ tattoo on the wrist, bicep, or foot will feed you for a month, while a 3″ x 3″ tattoo on the shoulder blade, forearm, or calf will ensure a year’s supply of free subs.

And, for those not remotely interested in anything permanent, the event will offer a free airbrush logo and a single free sandwich to enjoy that day.  

While Subway is campaigning to turn its customers into walking billboards for its new Series rebranding, the rest of the internet is in a state of disbelief—with most people urging others not to participate.

Some have even gone so far as to call the campaign immoral and have taken jabs at Subway’s capacity for sound decision-making.

To earn free subs for life, fans will need to get the 12″ x 12″ “Footlong” tattoo on either the sternum or back. This will get them $50,000 worth of gift cards that may be redeemed at participating restaurants. 

However, not explicitly listed is the caveat that only one footlong tattoo will be given the ultimate prize at the event.

On a brighter note, the tattoo will be done by DJ Tambe, an award-winning pro.

“Tattoos hold a special meaning for my customers, they come to me to celebrate the things they love the most or to commemorate a major moment in their lives,” Tambe said in a press release. “Whether that’s the first time trying the Subway Series, or simply eternal love for Subway, I’m here to make that a permanent part of their lives and something to showcase.”

In total, nine tattoos will be handed out at the six-hour event. Just remember, while sandwiches come and go, tattoos are super hard to get rid of!
