Pokémon Unite: 10 Essential Beginner Tips
Pokémon Unite can be a difficult game for newbies to MOBAs. From jungling and obtaining Held Items to earning points and pursuing Legendaries, there is a lot to take in when you first start. After a few matches, you’ll quickly find that things aren’t as complicated as they appear.
If you frequently find yourself beginning over at your Base, here are a few ways to help you improve your skills. While mastering the ins and outs of Pokémon Unite may take time, these ten tips will keep your friends pleased – and you in the fight.
Recognize each Battle Type
The simplest approach to improve as a Pokémon Unite player is to understand how each Battle Type is intended to work — and how Pokémon belonging to that class might affect a match. Notice how Crustle is slowly making its way toward you? Keep an eye out for Rock Tomb, which may obstruct your escape route. Is that a Pikachu up ahead? Approach it fast and deal damage Because its HP is among the lowest in the game.
While mastering each Battle Type will take time, make a concerted effort to grasp how each of the five is intended to behave in battle. Do that, and you will be able to predict your adversary’s next move before they do it.
Recognize each map
There are only a few maps available in Pokémon Unite, but each one offers a minor variation on the standard MOBA style. Some will generate Wild Pokémon that when beaten grant bonuses, while others may include only a few Goal Zones that you must be wary of. Understanding where Wild Pokémon appear and which pathways become enormous chokepoints is critical to your success – take the wrong lane at the wrong time and you may find yourself returning to your base unexpectedly.
Collaborate with others
If you want to succeed, you’re going to need to collaborate with your teammates. At the very least, you’ll need to band together and assign lanes to players. To increase your chances of success, though, you’ll want to coordinate your attacks and lane pushes.
Each Battle Type in Pokémon Unite is optimal for assisting their teammates. Whether you’re an Attacker, Defender, or Supporter, there’s almost no reason to venture out alone — unless it’s part of your team’s master plan and you’re confident in your abilities.
Concentrate on the objective
With so much action occurring simultaneously, it’s easy to lose track of time on the battlefield. Rather than constantly pursuing opponents, keep your sight on the prize — score pointing. Once you’ve defeated a few Wild Pokémon or eliminated a few members of the opposing side, be sure to rack up those points at a Goal Zone. Otherwise, you risk being knocked unconscious and forfeiting your entire cache.
Additionally, you’ll want to keep a watch out for Legendary and other Wild Pokémon that provide brief stat increases upon defeat. They’re not easy to tear down, but the effort is well worth it.
Bear in mind that Wild Pokémon exist
While we’re on the subject of Wild Pokémon, don’t forget to use them as a quick way to level up. While pursuing real players is undoubtedly more enjoyable, these NPCs provide simple XP and provide some of the finest targets for low-level players. If you’re completely new to Pokémon Unite, they also provide an opportunity to practice various talents in a relatively low-stakes scenario.
Holdings are critical
As you progress through Pokémon Unite, you’ll collect Aeos Coins to spend on items. And if you want to stay competitive with other players at your level, you’re going to want to employ them liberally. Held Items grant minor stat increases and other perks, such as increased HP or free XP.
When the appropriate Held Items are combined with your Pokémon, you will notice a noticeable increase in performance on the battlefield. With so many things accessible and over a dozen playable Pokémon, there is a lot of room for experimentation when it comes to creating a combination that fits your playstyle.
Avoid combat near enemy Goal Zones
Combat is already challenging in Pokémon Unite; therefore, do yourself a favor and avoid fighting near opposing Goal Zones. Because these provide a shield and replenish HP to their respective teams, there is no motivation for them to attempt to remove foes hiding near their own Goal Zones.
Rather of that, use other skills to stun or force them backward. Ignoring them is rarely the wisest course of action — after all, you’ll need to gain points in some way — but attempting a full-blown knockout is a fruitless endeavor for beginning players.
When necessary, retreat
You’re going about your business, steadily destroying Wild Pokémon and leveling up. Then two or three opponents appear out of nowhere to take your spot. If you believe you will be unable to repel them, there is no shame in fleeing. Not only will you avoid the lengthy respawn interval, but you’ll also retain your valuable points – just be sure to immediately head to a Goal Zone once the coast is clear.
Maintain a high level
Keeping up with the rest of the lobby is a critical component of Pokémon Unite. If you’re not careful, you risk falling a few levels behind the competition, making it more difficult to win points and maintain your lane.
Consider purchasing the Exp. Share item as a beginner. This provides you with consistent XP if you are the team’s lowest-level character. Additionally, you’ll want to improve your jungling abilities and overall skill utilization, as this will help you level more quickly.
Concentrate on obtaining last hits
As with other MOBAs, extracting last hits is a critical aspect of Pokémon Unite. Anyone who scores a successful hit on a Wild Pokémon or the other team earns more XP than the rest of the fighters, making it critical to time your attacks and keep powerful skills off cooldown while their HP bar depletes.
Additionally, you can use this method to assist colleagues in leveling. Deal some damage to Wild Pokémon, then summon your low-DPS colleague to give the final blow. With any luck, you’ll be able to quickly level both yourself and your team by cooperating and rotating who delivers the ultimate hit.
