The Philippine National Police (PNP) ordered on Tuesday, July 12, all station commanders and chiefs of police to regularly update the crime-mapping in their respective areas in order to come up with the best strategies to further lower crime incidents in the country.

Police Maj. Gen. Valeriano De Leon, PNP director for Operations, said having full idea and understanding of peace and order situation in any area is important for every commander as this would lead to planning and implementation of crime prevention strategies.

“Our crime rate has been on the decline in the past six years and we have to sustain our gains in running after all criminal elements for the sake of our kababayan,” said De Leon.

He added that as police officers, it is the obligation of every man and woman in the PNP to live up to the expectations of the Filipino people.

De Leon said that having a clear picture of what is happening on the ground is an essential tool for every police commander to develop, implement, and adjust security measures to deny criminal elements any opportunity to strike.

Through this, De Leon said the PNP can also identify the best practices of police commanders in anti-crime drives which could be adopted in some areas.

“Overall, our goal is to deliver the best security measures for the Filipino people for the benefit of all,” he said.
