NORTH COTABATO — Police authorities have launched a manhunt operation against the two assailants who killed a village chair in Pikit town on Thursday.

Police Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, Police Regional Office-12 director, ordered the hot pursuit operation against the suspects in the killing of Jalandoni Akas, village chair of Barangay Macabual, Pikit.

Akas was gunned down in Barangay Nalapaan while riding a motorcycle around 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 21.

PMajor Maxim Peralta, Pikit police chief, said murder charges were filed with the prosecutor’s office against the suspects whose identities were withheld pending the court’s issuance of warrant of arrest.

The suspects, who managed to escape after shooting the victim, were positively identified by witnesses who saw the killing.

Police are eyeing a clan war between the suspects and the victim as possible motives in the killing.
