Casimero is required to defend his championship against Butler by the WBO
It would seem that the much-awaited clash between John Riel Casimero, WBO champion of the bantamweight, and Nonito Donaire, titleholder of the WBC, would need to wait a little longer.
Both camps have been in negotiations already, as WBO chairman Luis Batista-Salas confirmed.
“It should be noted that, upon receipt of this letter, the parties will have 20 days to achieve agreement,” Batista-Salas said in a letter from Boxing Scene. If an agreement is not achieved within the time period specified below, a Purse Bid will be ordered in accordance with the WBO’s World Championship Contest Regulations.
The same applies for Donaire, as for the WBC who ordered him to be confronted earlier this week by interim world titular and compatriot Reymart Gaballo.
Although Casimero and Donaire have already made changes to each other, it was not the circumstance they expected to develop in the future weeks.
Both Casimero and Donaire have already voiced their desire to confront each other while another barrier in the Bantamweight Division is also offered by the presence of the unbeaten Japanese icon of Naoya Inoue, which is the owner of super WBA, the IBF and the Bantamweight ring.
The 31-years-old Casimero (31-4, 21 knockouts), from Ormoc, Leyte, is very good at a split win over Cuban rival Guillermo Rigondeaux last month while Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) claimed the WBC title in May with a fourth-round win over Frenchman Northine Oubaali.
After a 3-round triumph over Philippine boxer Michael Dasmariñas, Inoue was left untouched for his 21st straight win over 18 Ko since October 2012.
In the same time, future opponent of Casimero Butler, a former IBF bantamweight champion, has been riding in a seven-game win streak since November 2018, with the latest coming from a split decision-making win for the vacant international bantamweight title against Mexican Willibaldo Garcia, in June which has pushed him towards the top rival against the Ormo natives.
The final date is not yet announced for the Casimero-Butler battle.
