Adam Warlock of Marvel Joins the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Finally, Adam Warlock will make an appearance in the MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer-director James Gunn has recruited actor Will Poulter as the powerful hero after teasing the role in a post-credit scene in Vol. 2.
Deadline was the first to report the rumor earlier today. After then, Gunn personally verified it via Twitter.
There was never any doubt that Warlock would make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made no qualms about stating this as far back as 2017. Before the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which was based on the Infinity Gauntlet comics, Kevin Feige stated io9 that “[Adam Warlock’s appearance] will not be until Guardians 3.” It’s true that Adam isn’t in Infinity War, but James [Gunn] has always had a soft spot for the character, and our take on Infinity War is the culmination of everything we’ve done thus far.
This has been an interesting journey for Poulter so far. He made his debut in the Sundance hit Son of Rambow before starring as Eustace Scrubb in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third Chronicles of Narnia film. Following We’re the Millers, he appeared with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis in the film The Maze Runner: The Death Cure before going bad. Most notably, he co-starred in The Revenant with eventual Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio before appearing in a slew of other films and TV shows, including Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Midsommar, and others.
His biggest role to date will be as Marvel’s Adam Warlock, a superhero who wields immense power. Because Warlock is a part of Vol. 3, it’s safe to assume these characters, under James Gunn’s watch, are winding off a trilogy, but there has to be more. Once Adam Warlock is introduced, you can be sure that he will cause a stir.
Movie production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to begin in the near future, with a release date of May 5, 2023.
